Working on developing theme, concept and design for an exhibit at the NY Autoshow!
It humbled me to receive this thank you from racing legend, broadcaster, writer, artist, Sam Posey himself. Visiting his studio and learning about his life was amazing in itself, but then to get this... Awesome.
The Hot Wheels is one of Sam's most famous rides throughout his career - He even signed it for me...
I designed an exhibition at the Saratoga Automobile Museum based around Sam's life called "Shifting Through the Creative Life of Sam Posey" - which encompasses 10 cars, architectural models, chairs, paintings and more.
For me this exemplifies what I try to do in my work - Which is leave no rock unturned, nothing I do on a page is without thought, there is a reason for everything, an explanation, a "history" of why, so on and so forth... you get the picture. I'm just feeling pumped because a lot of people don't get what "an artist does"... This guy gets it and for him to appreciate my work means a lot.
Working on a logo for the NY Rock n' Roots Festival - A two day music event in Lake George NY. I went through many many options with this - I came to this solution while making the lakes in NY guitars - they were to small and not working, then came this solution - Home Run... The star at the neck of the guitar "where Lake George is on a map" Marks the spot... Some will get it some won't. The client loved it.
Working with Sam Posey and his wife Ellen on this project was a true honor.
After visiting Sam Posey's home and studio one thing I knew I needed to change was "color" his studio is a ray of light, full of creativity and excitement. The blue and white lines around his car symbolize the many layers of Sam, the other dimensions of Sam - An artist, a writer, broadcaster, model railroader and so much more - The modern day Renaissance Man. - These will be banners that run over 10' tall - surrounded by Sam's racing cars.
This panel is roughly 20' wide, 9' tall and is the introduction to the Posey Exhibition, I'm so glad I choose this photo as talking with Sam Posey's wife Ellen, the first thing she said is that this her all time favorite picture of Sam. This is Also Sam's favorite "ride" which I actually found out after the fact.
After visiting with Sam - I knew one thing, color needed to be added to the "brand" for this exhibition.
Shifting through the creative life of Sam Posey - First take - combining a building designed by Sam and adding the architectural lines helps tell more of the story - This will be the first piece seen in the Exhibition.
Sam Posey being the artist he is, designed his own helmet drawing inspiration from the American Flag.
Stories of Automotive Archaeology exhibit explores long forgotten treasures of rolling metal, looking back through time, starting with a 1908 car made by Sears. The piston and shovel crossing, I thought was a great symbol to exemplify that theme. The text choice of thick slab serif letters and easy reading script really bring this home.
100 years of motorcycles: This exhibit I curated and designed - Highlighting motorcycle races in Saratoga Springs, 1914 and 1915.
The British exhibit is nearing completion - making proofs - looking over flow from panel to panel
Tweaking the crown and adding more automotive flare to the illustration. Gill sans font - used on highway signs in England - I thought fit the bill perfectly.
20' of design awesomeness...
These will be printed as two sides Id banners that hang on lamp posts.
Working on a Bentley racing history panel - it's about 20' wide.
Working on some concepts for an event theme - Casino Royale, Bond style
This is a concept for a rack card advertising The British are coming exhibition! It's missing something, my Brit friend said it looks Irish. I was going for British racing green
The theme of this this exhibition is - "British cars and motorcycles" - classic Paul Revere style!
